What to expect at West Church – a welcome from Pastor Andrea Smith

What to Expect on a Sunday

It’s hard for a website to portray the West worship experience. You need to be present in person or online to fully appreciate the energy and love that permeates through West worship. Here’s what to expect:

Online:

Watch live worship Sundays at 10 AM or on demand anytime. Online chat hosts keep you connected and allow you to participate from around the corner or around the globe. This experience is designed exclusively for our online church with activities and missions to do from home. Our online members are very much their own campus of West Church. You won’t feel like you are watching someone else’s in person worship if online worship suits you best.

In Person:

Worship begins at 10 AM at Lake Norman High School. Arrive a little early to grab a beverage. If you have kids or youth, head to the welcome station and we’ll get them to the right place for a fun hour of children’s worship.

Friendly People:

We have greeters and a welcome kiosk should you have questions or want help getting connected.

Casual Dress:

You’ll find folks dressed in shorts and t-shirts or athletic apparel, some coming straight from their soccer game. In winter, a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt is common.

No Judgment:

No awkward moments. No one will be staring to see if you “fit in” or are the “norm.” There is NO norm at West!

Our Leadership and Staff

West Church has an amazing team of leaders who are passionate about bringing God’s love, hope, and joy to our Lake Norman community and beyond. West is led by Rev. Dr. Andrea Smith, who launched the church 11 years ago, and a Pastor’s Advisory Council of laypeople. We have an incredible team of  full- and part-time staff devoted to the West core values.

Thanks for Checking Out West. We’ve Got a Gift for You!

If you’d like to know more, please complete our digital connect card so that we can send you a cool welcome gift, offer relevant information, and stay in touch. We’ll never share your information and you control how much communication, if any, you wish to receive. If you’re interested, a West member will be your virtual guide, answering questions and helping you plug in online or in person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have members?

The moment you walk through the door or connect with our messages online, you belong here and can consider this your church home. We don’t have traditional membership but we hope you become fully engaged in the life of West. Engaging can take many forms – volunteering your talents to the church, participation in missions, connecting with a small group, etc.

Are you “United Methodist” or what?

West is part of the United Methodist Church. We say that proudly and don’t hide the affiliation. But West is also different in that we adhere faithfully to our own core values, such as unconditional love and acceptance of all sexual orientations.

Do you have programs for children and youth?

Children and youth are a key focus at West. We want our next generation to associate church with fun, while teaching them valuable life lessons about loving God, loving themselves and loving others in a non-threatening way. In addition to in person opportunities, we serve children through a free online subscription box children’s ministry called AMPED.  Learn More

What communities do you serve? Can I worship online?

West has physical worship and missions centers in Mooresville, NC. Our members come from the surrounding communities of Troutman, Denver, Mt. Mourne, Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville. We also have a large online worship family, with people from 29 states and nine countries joining us regularly for live and on demand worship.

Do you really mean “all means all”?

Absolutely. Positively. Without fail. It is a non-negotiable core value at West. Folks have a safe place at West to explore a relationship with God regardless of sexual orientation, race, economic status or political view.
