Finding Joy: What’s the difference in contentment, happiness and joy?
Contentment. Being satisfied with where you are in life Happiness. Feeling of exuberance, peace, light-heartedness. The above two are temporary. Joy is not. Joy is not situational. You can have joy even when the situation is not happy.
Takeaway: Joy always has a flip side — there are times of big sorry and big struggle. Big hurdles we have to overcome to get to places of deep joy. Joy is the quiet confidence that despite circumstances, all is well.
To accept we can have joy even when things aren’t going our way look at the gift that came Christmas eve. The gift that comes to us from the Christ child is that in uncertainty and pain, difficult and challenging feelings and thoughts we have the opportunity to find joy.
Jesus shows us how we can have joy despite the most horrific circumstances.
