You can make a difference in the lives of others in our community and world by participating in this calendar for various West Church missions.
This month we’re going to choose generosity every single day. Will you join us in Unmasking Christmas one day at a time? We’re going to challenge ourselves to make a difference in the lives of others. We’re going to share the love and light of Christ with others so that the world is a brighter/better place. Challenge your friends, co-workers, and neighbors to participate so that our impact is even greater!
Drop off location and instructions are listed below.
Join us in prayer for the following missions represented on the calendar above.
The Backpack Mission serves the students and families of Third Creek Elementary School in Iredell County where 90-95 percent of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches. This is a partnership between St. Therese and West Church. Our goal is to have supplementary food every other week for every student who expresses a need. The school counselor says, “kids truly enjoy and look forward to getting support, many of them take this responsibility VERY seriously and consider this their way of helping out their family.
Evangel Church Kigumba
Because of the positive power of social media and the fact that we have partnerships in Nebbi, Uganda, we have some “mutual friends” on Facebook. In June of 2021, a small team will take an investigative/exploratory trip to Kigumba, lead a crusade on “Mind, Body, and Spirit” and will spend time with Pastor Geoffrey while there!
College Care Packing
Every school year the West Church Faith Community nominates college students to receive care packages throughout the school year. Last year we served 52 students a total of 312 care packages. Created to encourage and share some love with college students! We currently have 40 college students all over the united states who are receiving packages of encouragement and love.
Mooresville Kindness Closet
The first Mooresville Kindness Closet was founded by Little Helpers of Mooresville in November 2018 as a way to show that young people can make a huge difference. In November of 2019, The Kindness Closet Inc. was created and became a 501(c)3. The Kindness Closet is committed to lessening the financial burden of those in need by providing basic household and hygiene items that are not covered by government assistance. The Kindness Closet provides an opportunity for citizens to spread kindness through sponsoring and stocking the closet one or two weeks at a time. An example of the items needed includes laundry detergent, napkins, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products. To learn more check out: www.thekindnesscloset.com. West will be stocking the closet from January 16-29, 2021.

Pig Out Food Truck
The Pig Out Food Truck is working to break the racial divide that exists in our churches by working with Faith UMC & St. Paul UMC to be out in the community offering love & hope in sharing a meal with the hungry each Sunday afternoon. On average we’ve served 150 hot, home-cooked meals every Sunday this year. Learn more about the Pig Out food truck at www.PigOutMooresville.org.

Random Acts of Kindness
One of the ways that we can share the light with others is by doing kind things for people we do not know. Let us try to do those daily so that we can connect with the light of Christ that lives within each of us.
NB Mills Elementary School
NB Mills is one of Iredell-Statesville Schools within the city limits of Statesville. With 98-99% free and reduced lunch, this school has delightful young students, but a parent population that is not in a position to help support their school. They don’t have room for parents or a PTO. This Christmas, West has asked to support the dedicated teachers and staff to help make the holidays a little more special. We will be providing gift cards to each of the teachers so they can do something small in their classroom, providing an afternoon snack with a hot chocolate and cider bar, and providing gift bags to replenish much-used classroom supplies. If you are interested in being involved with NB Mills on a regular basis, please reach out to Beth Packman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
