New Sermon Series – Road Trip – Starts Ash Wednesday

I hope you are getting ready for an amazing Road Trip to Jerusalem . . . . starting today on Ash Wednesday!

The confirmands had a phenomenal time burning the palm branches from last year and then Pat Benfield has started an amazing ash crushing business (I believe we have enough ashes to upfit every Protestant and Catholic church on the eastern seaboard)!

As we come to worship we will be stepping into our journey . . .
We will look around and see others walking on the same path . . .
We will confess that far too often we don’t take the next step that will carry us to our destination.
We will ask for forgiveness for our own failures.
We will recognize that we get distracted by the people lining the road who try to lure us to more appealing places and things . . .

And we will make a commitment when those ashes are placed on our foreheads that we will prayerfully dig in and REALLY take this journey!
We will limp along in our own woundedness and even when we stumble and perhaps even stop . . . . we will do what it takes to continue the journey to the cross.

For it is at that cross that we will find the hope that sustains us, the grace that saves us, and the love that leads us to a life far greater than anything we can ever imagine.

I look forward to limping on the journey with you . . . . for it is as we limp along together that we feel the amazing power and grace of the church.

Last Sunday we welcomed our first group of disciples to Williamson’s West. If you would like to become a “disciple” of Williamson’s Chapel West Campus, we are going to have “Pizza with the Pastor” on Sunday, March 4th at 11:15 am @ Brooklyn Boys Pizza. Adult & Wired Service!

West is having an Ash Wednesday service at Lake Norman High School on February 22, 7:30 PM. Join us as we begin the Lenten Season with this very moving service.

Wired is having an Ash Wednesday Service as well! The Wired Ash Wednesday service is a cool and relevant way for kids to understand Ash Wednesday and Lent and be able to participate in their own service of ashes.

Youth Summer Mission Camps 2012

Wilmington, NC

This is a great opportunity for youth and adults alike to experience being “The hands and feet of Christ” in a beautiful environment in a coastal city. We will be staying at the magnificent First Presbyterian Church on third street downtown.

The work projects will be provided and supervised by the Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry which did a great job for us last year.

We have two, one-week trips scheduled:

July 1-7
July 8-14

There will be room for 54 youth and 23-25 adult volunteers each week.

During the first week we will go down to the riverfront to join the celebration and Fireworks on the 4th of July and during the second week we will go on Wednesday to have dinner and worship with pastor Terry Leigh Buckner and her congregation at the Closer Walk UMC in Leland, NC which was a great hit last year.

We will have nightly praise and worship with live music and family group time to discuss the day’s events.

We have had numerous comments from both youth and adults on past trips, indicating that they were surprised how much they got out of this experience on a spiritual level. Why not go along with us this year and be surprised yourself; get “elevated” in your relationship with God.

There will be 2 or 3 detailed orientation and Q&A sessions after church over the next 3 months. For questions or more volunteer information, contact Ed Landis: edwardlandis@msn.com.
